Philosophy

Yoga is a way of life. One of the reasons I often bring yoga, nutrition, life and healing together in my professional life, is because they are almost inseparable in my personal life. Without my daily yoga practice and philosophy, I would be unable to live with the awareness and intention it takes to make healthy choices—and guide others to do so.

As with many yogis my practice began as a way to gain flexibility, strength and relaxation. I received all of these things and so much more. Yoga was my open door to a deeper, truer inner world—one that has helped me change my outer world.

While yoga is not a religion, it is an opportunity to live a life of connection and awareness, which is spiritual in and of itself. A flexible body translates to a flexible mind, and visa versa. Breath work opens up a wealth of health, creativity, and, again, awareness. Balance, a calm mind, a stable peace, grounding, inner and outer strength—these are all the rewards of living life as a yogi. The more I practice, the deeper connection I have to self, others, and our environment.

My yoga classes are designed to guide yoga students to their own discoveries. We are each our own teacher, in this regard, and I always feel privileged to help out in the process. Both beginner and advanced students are welcome.

Yin yoga, which is an branch of the tradional Taoist Yoga philosophy, is a slower, deeper, still practice. It is helpful for people who live a physically and/or mentally active live, or as a balance to a more active yoga practice. Athletes, runners, golfers, and people who are stiff in the area of the hips will benefit most. Those of us who appreciate the mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of moving deeper and practicing stillness will also enjoy yin yoga. We hold postures for up to five minutes allowing us to get past the muscle deep into the joints and connective tissue.

Hatha yoga offers classical and modern postures to increase flexibility and facilitate balance in body, mind and spirit. A regular practice is a wonderful way to counteract the negative affects of stress and a modern lifestyle. It's really a perfect way to feel connected to onself and beyond. Stretches and postures, matched with breath and energy work, music, meditation and sound, all help the yoga student to find his or her way, both physically and/or spiritually. I invite students to feel comfortable with themselves and do what’s best for them in each moment.

Spirituality is also a way of life, in the most practical sense, allowing me to live with awareness of myself, others, our community and environment. I find tools such as meditation, chanting, mantra, mudra, visualization, sharing, and creating, to be wonderfuls ways to keep me, my students and friends on an authentic path.
